The Village of Fredonia Planning Board met to hear only one agenda item, that being the public hearing for the expansion of Heenan’s Pub on East Main Street in the village of Fredonia. The plans have already graced the eyes of the Board at two meetings prior and Tuesday were on display for the public hearing.
Although no members from the public were in attendance, architect Richard Peebles presented the plans and the idea for the “Beer Garden,” or expansion of the current pub known as Heenan’s.
“What we’re basically doing is on East Main Street, with Heenan’s Pub on the corner, the antique store next to it will be demolished. That opening will be cleared and an addition will be added to provide a small kitchen, servicing the beer garden and bar with pub-grub,” Peebles said. “An additional entrance to the garden will be made, an additional handicapped toilet facility, a new stairway to a second floor over the existing pub and a garden wall gate at the building line wall will be constructed 40 inches high with a rod iron fence on top of that.”
On top of the fence will be a number of planters for decoration, and within will be a street-scape like deck with some standing tables outdoors covered by awnings during inclement weather.
“The other feature is a tower, which is about a two- story tower over the entryway and toilet facilities and a part of the access to the upper level that we’re eliminating during the demolition,” Peebles added.
“This door along East Main will be locked and keyed for who ever lives up there. A little portion of that up there will also be used as an office to overlook the beer garden.”
The Board had only two issues to discuss, both of which were resolved. The Board asked again how garbage will be handled. According to Peebles, garbage will be stored in the kitchen area until the end of the evening when it will be taken out to the side of the gate (not on the sidewalk) where it will be picked up daily.
The other issue was of music and sound, but according to Chief Inspection Officer John Monaco that falls under the village noise ordinance and would be handled by the village police department.
The Board asked if a resolution could be done but according to Monaco it could not because a resolution was not finished and the Board does not have a copy of a final plan from the architect.
The next planning board meeting will be held on Oct. 19 at 6 p.m. to approve the final site plan review for expansion at Heenan’s Pub.
