Van Volkenburg

James and Rose Van Volkenburg of Sherman, N.Y., celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary with a surprise anniversary party on July 4, 2010, at the home of their daughter in Sherman, N.Y., and with a western Caribbean cruise in April. The celebration was hosted by their children and grandchildren, Amy and Vince Norton and daughters: Hilarie and Emily of Sherman, N.Y., and Andy and Andrea Van Volkenburg and son, Jakob of Carlisle, Pa. Out-of-state guests attended from Pennsylvania.

Van Volkenburg and the former Rose Vanderkooi were married July 4, 1970, in Sherman Community Church, Sherman, N.Y. The Rev. Elton Peterson performed the ceremony.

Van Volkenburg is a retired employee of Chautauqua County Department of Public Works where he served as road construction supervisor. He is currently serving as town of Sherman justice. He is a member of the AMVETS Post 50, American Legion and the Moose. Mrs. Van Volkenburg is employed by Panama Central School as secretary to the superintendent/district clerk. She is a member of Beta Sigma Phi International Sorority and serves as president of the Westfield Memorial Hospital Foundation Board. They are both members of the Lakewood Rod and Gun and Sherman Community Church.
