The search for a missing boater presumed to have drowned was stopped on Chautauqua Lake for the second day Sunday.

The Chautauqua County Sheriff's Department is not releasing the missing boater's name, but friends of the victim, 31-year-old Jason Allen of Jamestown, are reacting on his Facebook page. Allen went missing on Chautauqua Lake near Dewittville Bay on Saturday afternoon.

Around 5:29 p.m., the Chautauqua County Sheriff's Department responded to a call of a boater in the water. It was reported that the man had jumped into the lake, became distressed and was not seen again by the caller. Authorities searched into the night, but could not locate the missing boater.

On Sunday, crews searched again, but with no luck before the search was called off.

''It's a recovery situation - a large area being hampered by weeds,'' said Jon Stahley, county deputy fire coordinator. ''We were using side sonar cameras, three of them. Also, divers using plane-boarding looked around underwater to see what can be seen. These are the tactics being used.''

Stahley said the search will continue today.

Along with local police and fire, Starflight and the Chautauqua County Water Emergency Team are involved in the search.
