Leatrice S. Rowan

Leatrice S. Rowan, 83, of 26 Cass St., Westfield, N.Y., formerly of Sherman, died at 7 a.m. Friday, Feb. 12, 2010, at Absolut, West-field, N.Y.

She was born July 22, 1926, in Bradford, Pa., the daughter of the late Lloyd and Gladys Davidson Smith.

Leatrice was a graduate of Bradford High School, class of 1944 and was also a graduate of Clarion State University, Pa., class of 1948. She taught kinder-garten at Findley Lake for five years. She also worked as a teacher's aide at Find-ley Lake. She worked at Peek 'n Peak, retiring in 1991. She was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, in Lowville, Pa. Leatrice was a member of the Minerva Club in Sher-man and was a volunteer for the Sherman Yorker Club tourist information Center.

Leatrice is survived by-four sons: William (Melva) Rowan and Paul (Colleen) Rowan, both of Sherman, N.Y., Jerome Rowan, Miami, Fla., and Michael Rowan, Westfield, N.Y.; three daughters: Sue (Jim) Salsgiver, Punxsutawney, Pa., Karen (Mark) Wagner Portland, Ore., and Dorothy Babcock, French Creek, N.Y.; 17 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray-mond W. Rowan, who died Nov. 12, 1982 and whom she married June 1, 1948; son, Timothy Rowan, 1980; and daughter; Pau-lette Elizabeth Rowan, 1956; brother, Gale W. Smith, 2002; and son- in-law, Joel D. Babcock, 2008.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 15, 2010, at Spitzer Fun-eral Home with Pastor Preston Monterrey of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, Lowville, Pa., offi-ciating. Interment will be at St. Matthias Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Spitzer Funeral Home, Sherman, N.Y., on Sunday, Feb. 14, 2010 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. and for one hour prior to the service on Monday.
