SALAMANCA - A Salamanca H1N1 shot clinic has been scheduled by Cattaraugus County's Health Department.
Shots will be available to anyone at the clinic, which will be held from 1 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 13 at the senior citizens center, 20 Main St.
Health department staff report flu activity remains widespread, although activity has decreased over the past two weeks, with nearly all flu to date being the H1N1 strain.
The H1N1 virus is very unpredictable, but it is frequently characterized by a period of increases in activity, followed by a period of decreased activity, and then increased activity again. Most flu activity is seen during winter months but usually runs through May.
Getting vaccinated in the next two months will provide protection against a possible third wave of the H1N1 virus this winter and spring, along with preventing another wave of flu activity.
More information on the flu is available at www.cattco.org, www.nyhealth.gov or www.flu.gov. Residents with questions may also call 701-3980 or 938-2980, or the state health department at 800-808-1987.
