JCC Music Groups To Perform
The Jamestown Community College choir, concert band, and jazz and rock ensembles will showcase a variety of music styles during upcoming winter concerts in JCC's Scharmann Theatre in Tuesday.
Admission to each concert is $4, general public; $3, area students and senior citizens; and $2, JCC Faculty Student Association members. Tickets can be purchased by calling the JCC box office, 338.1187, or at the theatre door prior to performances.
JCC's choir, concert band, vocal jazz ensemble, jazz ensemble big band, and concert band perform on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
The choir, directed by Brian A. Bogey, will perform a Ray Charles arrangement of "Jingle Bells," the spiritual, "Hurry, Hurry Yonder," and "Gloria In Excelsis Deo" by Maurice Whitney.
Songs from the popular genre include "Breath of Breath of Heaven" by Amy Grant and Lloyd Larson and the Blood Sweat and Tears classic, "Spinning Wheel."
Broadway selections include "Memory" from the musical Cats and the choral showcase from Jekyll & Hyde.
The vocal jazz ensemble, directed by Michael F. Kelly, will present Billy Joel's "New York State of Mind," a jazz arrangement of the Christmas classic "Carol of the Bells," "I Hope You Dance," and "Voice Dance III." The ensemble and jazz ensemble big band will combine to perform "Blue Moon."
The jazz ensemble big band, which is directed by Ralph Rasmusson, will also perform "Boplicity" by Miles Davis,
"The Call: by Dick Grove, "Don't Be That Way" by Parrish, "Adelieland" by Powell, and "Play That Funky Music" by Parisi.
The concert band, also directed by Rasmusson, will present "Blue Goose Rag" by Ray Birch, "Nearer My God to Thee," "West Side Story Selection" by Sondheim and Bernstein, and the "Symphonic Overture" by Charles Carter.
The evening will close with the choir and concert band performance of "A Christmas Festival" by Leroy Anderson and Russell Robinson.
JCC's rock ensembles perform during the Winter Jam concert at 7 p.m. on Dec. 10. Directed by Bill Eckstrom, nine bands will perform music ranging from classic rock to acoustic sets. Originals and cover tunes will be featured with selections from the Beatles, Goo Goo Dolls, and Van Halen. The concert will be fully staged with sound and lighting by Steven Gustafson.
