Charles E. Brown

MAYVILLE - Charles E. Brown, 76, of 4228 West Lake Road, Mayville, died Friday (Dec. 4, 2009), at home.

He was born Dec. 19, 1932, in Dunkirk, N.Y., the son of the late Cecil and Cecile Markham Brown.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force having been stationed in Korea. He re-tired from the New York State Department of Tran-sportation in Mayville, after 27 years.

He was a member of St. Mary of Lourdes Catholic Church in Mayville, May-ville Senior Citizens, North Harmony Senior Citizens, a life member of Lake Chau-tauqua Memorial Post 8647 in Mayville, and was a life member of William L. Travis American Legion 493 in Mayville.

Charlie loved John Deere Tractors, pocket watches, and enjoyed watching western movies especially ''Gunsmoke.''

He is survived by his wife, Edna Kranking Brown, whom he married Sept. 5, 1953, in St. Mary's Catholic Church in May-ville; four sons: Daniel (Marianna) Brown of Rich-mond, Ky., Timothy Brown of Mayville, John (Pamela) Brown of Panama, and David (Tracy) Brown of Sherman; eight grandchil-dren: Philip Brown of Lub-bock, Texas, Erin Watkins of Indian Trail, N.C., Valerie Pedigo of Panama, Christopher Brown of Pana-ma, Sarah Brown of Rich-mond, Ky., Katrina Brown of Sherman, Lucas Brown of Richmond, and Jennifer Brown of Sherman; four great-grandchildren; one sister, Charlotte (George) Farnham of Mayville; and one brother James Brown of Brocton.

He was preceded in death by a son, Philip Brown who died in 1994; and a sister, Virginia Brown.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Monday in St. Mary of Lourdes Catholic Church in Mayville (formerly St. Mary's Catholic Church). The Rev. Todd Remick, rector will officiate. Burial will be in the Mayville Cemetery. The veterans from Lake Chautauqua Memorial Post Veterans of Foreign Wars will do mili-tary honors.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday in the Freay Funeral Home, Mayville.
