Anthony and Mary Rainier of Fluvanna celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on Oct. 16, 2009, with a family dinner and celebration. They are the parents of Fran Rainier of Fluvanna, Roslyn and her husband, Dr. Sal Vicario, of Louisville, Ky., and Deborah and her husband, Steven Kapuscinski, of Cincinnati, Ohio. They also have six grandchildren and a great-granddaughter.
Rainier and the former Mary L. Loverme were married on Oct. 16, 1944, in St. James Church. The Rev. John L. Fitzpatrick performed the ceremony.
Rainier is a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in the SEABEES, and had been a professional meat cutter for more than 55 years. Before their retirement in 2007, they owned and operated Rainier's Market on Falconer and Bowen Streets since 1965. The original meat market was located in the City Public Market in Brooklyn Square.
