Thelma I. Corson, 89, of the Leon-New Albion Road, Leon, passed away at 2 a.m.. Saturday, Nov. 28, 2009, in the Buffalo General Hospital. She was born Sept. 29, 1920, in the Hephzibah, Ga., the daughter of the late George and Sarah Oates Jowers. Mrs. Corson was a Home Health Care Provider for New York State and had taken in many individuals into her home over the years to care for. In earlier years she was a chef for many area restaurants and had also owned and operated Thelma's Restaurant in Eldred, Pa. Surviving are five sons: George Corson of Schenectady, N.Y., Timothy Corson of Falconer, Donald Corson, Ronald Corson and Harold Corson, all of Leon; a daughter, Barbara Hall of Jacksonville, Fla.; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two husbands: Harold J. Corson in 1962 and Arnot M. Smith in 1992; two daughters: Genevieve Crawford in 2008 and Sarah Corson-Winship in 1991; as well as a son Robert Corson in 2009.
Funeral services to Celebrate Thelma's life will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday (Dec. 3, 2009) in the Cherry Creek Assembly of God Church. The Rev. Kenneth Pratt, Pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Treet Memorial Cemetery in Leon. Visitation will not be observed. Arrangements are entrusted to the VanRensselaer & Son Funeral Home, 14 Church St., Randolph.
