Thanks To Veterans For Protection

POSTED: November 28, 2009

To the Readers' Forum:

I was pleasantly astounded with the beautiful Veterans Day photos in the Thursday, Nov. 12, Post-Journal, two of which were our Veterans' Day tribute at Lucille Ball Memorial Park, Celoron. Knowing that our current village officials are in tune to the sacrifice of ''all gave some ... Some gave all'' made this Veterans' Day one to be remembered. Each one of us has our own view and reflection on what war is and what war does. Our veterans should be commended daily for defending our country, putting our lives ahead of theirs and continuing to let freedom ring each and every day.

A very sincere thank you to all of you for protecting us daily.

Pamela D. Piazza

Bud I understand what you're saying, but you took it too far. Whether or not someone CHOSE to become a soldier is irrelevant. The fact that they did choose means I don't have to. THAT is the reason there is no draft. The fact that someone CHOOSES to make such a sacrifice is more noble than when someone is forced to.

While I agree that we need protection from our own government, I think 9/11 proved that we also need protection from those people our soldiers are fighting on the far side of the earth.

I am a teacher. And while I would gladly accept a "thank you" from someone, I recognize that my profession does not compare to the sacrifice of a soldier's.

The cliché grows old after a while, people making it sound as if Soldiers, Police and Firemen are the only meaningful career choices. We do NOT owe everything to those who chose uniformed careers, it was their CHOICE. We no longer have the Draft.

“Protecting us” is worthy of debate as our military kills people on the far side of the Earth. We need PROTECTED from our politicians right here at home, they are truly TERRORISTS.

Let’s thank EVERY productive member of society.

Thank a teacher; their job is often as dangerous as that of a soldier. Thank a mechanic, for fixing your car so you can get to work and back. Thank an airline pilot for landing on the runway and not in a corn field or a building! Thank the guy picking up your garbage for removing those bags of disease-spreading rat food from the curb! Thank a prostitute for the stress she relieved, stopping one of her Johns from going on a killing spree.
