A Jamestown police officer who was attacked by a Maryland man early Wednesday morning has been released from WCA Hospital, although he will likely be out of work for a while.
Just before 3 a.m., police were dispatched to a reported fight on North Main Street and upon arrival, Jermaine J. Gordon, 21, allegedly attacked the officer, knocking him to the ground and punching him several times in the face before fleeing.
Gordon was found a short time later walking downtown and taken into custody. He is facing several charges, including felony assault on a police officer and was taken to the city jail awaiting arraignment.
A full report will be in Thursday's Post-Journal.

the article clearly states a neighbor called the cops for what was thought to be a fight it indeed was not hence why the cop showed up alone.. I feel very bad for the cop that was hurt but what does that say about our police station. then men/women who are suppose to protect us. not only did the young man fight the cop he got away and was only caught cuz he was not smart enough to go inside.. what does that show to the youth? if they fight wit a cop they have a chance of getting away? The jamestown police department need to have less drinks downtown and work on staying in control and protecting our city

It doesnt matter if it was 3am, not like the cop just rolled out of bed. And im not saying he needed to make the first punch, Im sayin cops are trained for all sorts of things so when someone much younger can knock ya to the ground and punch ya several times, then how safe that does make you feel. Im assuming the cop has many years of training and taught to deal with much worse than some kid throwing around punches.

a police officer is not supposed to respond to an attack until he is struck or shot at. then he can use his weapons. if the officer had shot or clubed the man first, what would the reaction be?

Anyone who lacks respect for authority and is stupid enough to attack a police officer posses an even bigger risk to civilians. I hope he has a nice long "vacation" from society to reflect on his actions.

KGreen- Maybe if you think breaking up a street fight at 3 in the morning is an easy task to do by yourself, you should quit hiding behind your computer keyboard and give it a shot. One of the few jobs I would never want is Jamestown Police Officer, these guys deserve a lot of credit.

Jermaine J. Gordon is definitley not to bright, because he will be sitting in a state prison for quite a few years.

I don't thinks that every police officer in the country is suppose to be the best fighter out there. His job is to enforce the laws and occassionally you might meet up with someone who was brought up with no respect for the law like this individual but in the end the bad guy always gets caught and punished.
