Leslie H. Bennett, 70, of 16 Johnson St., Frewsburg, and Frostproof, Fla., died Monday Nov. 16, 2009, in Millard Fillmore Gates Circle, Buffalo.
A native of Warren, Pa., he was born April 20, 1939, a son of the late LeRoy and Dora Zobriest Bennett.
He was a 1958 graduate of Warren High School, and was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving from 1960 to 1963 including two years in Germany.
Prior to his retirement in 1999, he was employed by National Fuel Gas for 21 years as an equipment operator. He earlier had worked for Crescent Tool Company for 13 years.
He was a 36-year member of Hillcrest Baptist Church having served as trustee, usher, member of the finance committee, assistant Sunday school superintendent and as a member of the Bethesda Sunday school class. While wintering in Florida, he and his wife attended First Baptist Church, Frostproof. His other memberships include Chautauqua Lake Region Antique Auto Club and Frewsburg Classic Car Club.
He was an active volunteer with the local Red Cross working with the Bloodmobile and driving the van for the Sherman Blood Drive. He has donated more than 30 gallons of blood and was a member of the Century and 2nd Century Clubs. He and his wife also volunteered at the Gateway Center.
Surviving are his wife, the former Patty Parker, whom he married June 30, 1962; two children: Leslie H. ''Lee'' (Carolyn) Bennett of Kiantone. and Lisa Ann (Timothy) Lyon of Frewsburg; eight grandchildren: Andrew (Amber) Bennett of Jamestown, Nicholas, Taylor and Katelyn Bennett, all of Kiantone and Casey, Tyler, Jordan and Jacob Lyon, all of Frewsburg; a great-grandson, Riley Daniel Bennett of Jamestown; two brothers: Rodney Bennett of Bradford, Pa., and Dennis Bennett of Jamestown; and two sisters: Mary Bennett Swanson of Jamestown and Geraldine Baker Slocum of Warren.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, William Baker.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in Hillcrest Baptist Church. The Rev. Jerry McCann will officiate.
Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in the Lind Funeral Home.
