The new location has a waiting room, one-on-one consultation rooms, and reception area. The programs will be adjacent to the Lakewood Health Center Outpatient Lab which recently expanded its hours to accommodate the public to 7 a.m. to noon and 1 to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday. The lab is available to anyone with a written order from a physician or healthcare provider. No appointment is necessary.
"We are excited to move our programs to a new spacious facility where we can continue to offer comprehensive education services for our community," said Betsy T. Wright, WCA Hospital president and chief executive officer. "Two outstanding programs are coming together with a common goal to foster the best in healthcare education, customer service, and quality care."
The new location will offer ample front door parking; convenient outpatient lab services; professional diabetes and nutrition educators; handicap accessibility and prompt on-site registration service.
The Diabetes Self-Management Program offers individual and group education services from initial consultation to follow-up teaching and guidance. The program helps clients develop a healthy lifestyle through exercise, weight management and medication therapy. The program allows instructors to customize teaching plans for each client. Clients can opt to participate in individual or group classes, offered monthly in the morning or afternoon. Additionally, the program has received continued recognition from the American Diabetes Association through the year 2011.
The Medical Nutrition Therapy program specializes in individual nutrition therapy. Clients with medical diagnosis such as heart disease, cancer, obesity, eating disorders, hypertension, dysphagia and elevated cholesterol can benefit from the nutrition program. The program aims to provide clients with the ability to make decisions about food choices that will manage or prevent disease.
A physician referral is necessary to access both programs. A free screening and meet the staff event at the Lakewood Health Center will be announced in the coming months.
