Cassadaga Legion Auxiliary Meets

POSTED: November 12, 2009

CASSADAGA - The Cassadaga American Legion Unit 1280 Auxiliary met recently with Maureen Mikula, president, presiding.

The meeting was opened with a moment of silence in memory of veterans. The previous meeting minutes were read and accepted with one correction. The treasurer's report was given by Mrs. Mikula. Correspondence was read by Carol Baker, secretary, which included a thank you for Unit 1280's support from the "Take a Break Camp" for children of active veterans.

Sally Lawson, membership chairperson, said Unit 1280 has 110 members paid to date at about 40 percent.

Unit members can mail their 2010 dues to Mrs. Lawson or pay them at the post.

Carol Baker, poppy chairperson, was approved to purchase 4,000 poppies for 2010. June Woollett, chaplain, reported she sent out two get well cards with two gift certificates in the past month.

There was discussion on the Unit 1280 2010 Girls State participant, and the Unit members present voted to send one girl to SUNY Brockport next June.

Brandi Meacham, children and youth chairperson, said the children's games and the jump castle was a great hit at the post's family picnic. Her next project is the children's Halloween party and rounding up Santa and his reindeer for the children's Christmas party.

Mrs. Lawson asked for help from the unit members for the upcoming Scout's annual Veteran's Spaghetti Dinner at the post on Sunday.

Due to a conflict of dates, the scheduled Unit 1280 Vendor's Showcase at the post has been changed to Saturday, Dec. 12. Details will be worked out at the November meeting.

Unit 1280 along with the Post 1280 Legionnaire's and Sons of the Legion met to discuss plans for the upcoming Department Commander's visit to Post 1280 in February.

Sandy MacDonald is coordinating a bus trip to visit Washington, D.C., in the spring. Anyone interested may contact the post for details.

Unit members present voted to donate money to the Buffalo VA gift shop and to the "Walk for a Cure" cancer research campaign.

Unit 1280 members received a thank you certificate from the Brocton Legion for their support and participation with the Vietnam Moving Wall at the Brocton post in September.

Unit 1280 continues to collect coupons for our overseas families Labels for Education and Pennies for Hospice.
