Creating comfort all through the home is the goal of interior designer Michelle Paterniti.

Ms. Paterniti is the owner of the interior design business The Cosy Shack, where she assists people with both design services and finding home interior items.

Ms. Paterniti has owned her own business for eight years, but recently moved to her new location at 2384 Fairmount Ave., Route 394, in Ashville. The interior design boutique had been located on Chautauqua Avenue in Lakewood, but Ms. Paterniti wanted a shop with more space so she could offer more hard-to-find items for her customers.

''I want people to know they can find unique items here that they can't find elsewhere locally,'' she said. ''Quality products at a low price is my goal to help people find great items for their homes.''

The new business' location has a great flow of traffic from those traveling to and away from the Lakewood area, Ms. Paterniti said.

''Anyone coming into Lakewood from Mayville or Bemus Point has to go by my door,'' she said. ''People leaving town have to pass by me too.''

Ms. Paterniti said she is a full-service interior designer, offering products from custom made drapes to upholstery to bed spreads.

''I like to work one-on-one with clients to get them exactly what they want,'' she said. ''I love to make spaces beautiful.''

The interior designer said when she is hired she becomes the project manager for the client's remodeling job.

''From coordinating contractors to selecting fabrics, I do everything. I become the project manager,'' she said. ''Clients who hire me don't have to go through multiple people. They just go through me and I help with all the leg work.''

Ms. Paterniti said she always knew ever since she was a child that she wanted to be a designer.

''I'm very fortunate to do a job I absolutely love,'' she said. ''I always knew I wanted to be in design.''

The shop is open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, with appointments for other times also available by calling 763-0322.

The store will also have a Web site soon at www.cosyshack.com where people can look at home interior items, available services and make interior design seminar suggestions for the store to hold to educate clients on new techniques.
