Sectional Cross Country Meet On Tap Today
Jamestown’s Boyette, Falconer’s Murphy Headline Area Runners Who Will Compete At Elma MeadowsELMA - The Section 6 cross country championships will be held today at Elma Meadows.
The boys races open the competition, starting with Class D at 10:30 a.m. Class AA is at 11 a.m., Class A at 11:30 a.m., Class B at noon and Class C at 12:30 p.m.
The girls races kick off at 1 p.m. for Class D schools. Class AA begins at 1:30 p.m., Class A at 2 p.m., Class B at 2:30 p.m. and Class C at 3 p.m.
Among the area boys runners to watch are Savantuay Boyette and Brandon Delgado, Jamestown; Cliff Nielson and Kevin Brown, Gowanda; Alex Gonzalez, Dunkirk; Tyler Sweet, Sherman; Corey Wefing, Maple Grove; Richard Allen, Falconer; and Chaz Mancino, Fredonia.
Boyette, a senior, captured the Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association championship last week at Long Point State Park.
For the girls, Falconer's Shannon Murphy, the CCAA champ, headlines a group that also includes Caroline Benson, Emma Verdonik, Bella Zuroski and Katelyn Benson, Maple Grove; Alyssa Conti and Lauren Reyda, Fredonia; Emily Steves, Gowanda; and Sally Lindquist, Jamestown.
Area teams ranked in the Western New York polls are Gowanda (third), Fredonia (fourth) and Maple Grove (10th) for small school boys, while Fredonia (second), Maple Grove (third and Falconer (seventh) are listed for small school girls.
