Marian R. Gilbert

Marian R. Gilbert, 91, formerly of 181 Mud Creek Road, Kennedy and the Frewsburg Rest Home, passed away at 6:40 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2009, in Heritage Park Rehab and Skilled Nursing Center.

A lifelong area resident, she was born Feb. 20, 1918, in Gerry, the daughter of LaVern and Grace Barmore Hitchcock.

She was a 1935 graduate of Falconer High School. In earlier years she was employed at F.W. Woolworth Co., Weber Knapp Co., and later by Northern Propane Co. for 13 years, retiring in 1981. She was an active member of the Clarks

Corners Community Church, where she previously had taught Sunday school and was secretary and treasurer of the Sunday school for many years. She was treasurer of the Gerry Hill Cemetery Association for more than 30 years. Marian was also a member of the Town of Poland Senior Citizens and past member of the Kennedy Grange.

Surviving are her husband, Clair Gilbert, whom she married Nov. 13, 1948, in Sinclairville; three sons: Roger Hall (JoAnn) of Victor, N.Y., Richard Hall (Lyn) of Randolph, and Douglas Gilbert (Joyce) of Irmo, S.C.; a daughter, Cheryl A. Stull (Robert) of Truckee, Calif.; nine grandchildren: Nathalie Gay, Daniel Hall, Tonia McAllister, Thomas Hall, Sheri Mozingo, Sarah Stull, Matthew Hall, Jason Gilbert and Darcie Addy; and 15 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father in 1963; her mother in 1964; a brother, Kenneth H. Hitchcock in 1968; and sister, Dorothy G. Lyon in 1987.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday in Clarks Corners Community Church. The Rev. Gerald Haglund and the Rev. Walter Venman will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Sinclairville.

Friends will be received by the family from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday in the Falconer Funeral Home and one hour prior to the funeral service in the church Monday.

The family suggests memorials be made to Clarks Corners Community Church, Kennedy Fire Department or the Kennedy

Library.
