Edwards Praises Work On Hunt Road Repaving
By The Post-Journal Staff editorial@post-journal.comMAYVILLE - Chautauqua County Executive Gregory J. Edwards recently cited the hard work of the county's Department of Public Facilities, Lake Shore Paving and Jamestown Macadam Inc. for the quick completion of the Hunt Road repaving project.
"The Hunt Road job went so smoothly and so quickly that we can now begin on the Bemus Point to Ellery Center project which covers Bemus Point-Ellery Road," Edwards said. "I congratulate all the parties involved for doing such a tremendous job."
Department of Public Facilities Director George Spanos said work is under way with the milling of the Bemus Point-Ellery Road from Mahanna Road to Ellery Center, and paving scheduled to start. The project will cost approximately $200,000.
Edwards commended the DPF team for all of their advance work on the Hunt Road project, as well as Lake Shore Paving and Jamestown Macadam Inc., which supplied the blacktop.
$1.4 Million of American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funding was used to repave 5.6 miles of Hunt Road from Maple Avenue in Ashville to McDaniel Avenue in Jamestown. The project covered the towns of Busti, Ellicott and North Harmony, and addressed deteriorating pavement conditions.
Edwards the said the Hunt Road repaving project, as well as the Bemus Point-Ellery Road project, are examples of preventive maintenance and using federal stimulus money to improve local infrastructure.
"This continues the investment of approximately $3 million of federal stimulus money right into the local economy through local worker's paychecks," Edwards said.
A repaving project in Dunkirk which utilizes the remaining federal stimulus dollars will start this spring, Edwards said.
