ELLICOTT - Brian Orlando is seeking re-election for the Ellicott Town Council position in Ward 1 on the Republican line. Ward 1 comprises part of West Ellicott and all of the village of Celoron.
Orlando is a lifelong resident of the town and said he wants to continue to represent his community by seeking a second term.
"I've lived in the town of Ellicott for 36 years and truly enjoy the community. The reason I have chosen to continue with the Ellicott Town Board is because I care about the future of our community that my family and I enjoy so much. I also enjoy representing the people for which I serve with honesty and integrity," said Orlando. He said he has enjoyed serving the town.
"The past two years have been a great experience. I feel privileged to have had the opportunity to work with some wonderful officials in the town of Ellicott and neighboring officials," he said, adding he believes the officials have had the people's best interest at heart.
Orlando points out that government does not have to be distant from the residents nor does it have to be difficult.
"I have discovered that the easiest way to resolve issues is to talk to the people involved. Listening to the residents and hearing what it is that they want and their concerns is of utmost importance to me," he said.
"Ward 1 is unique in that it is made up of part of West Ellicott and the village of Celoron. While it is true that both of these areas have different issues they also share many of the same issues. First and foremost is the issue of more services for less cost. We must continue to strive to keep taxes at an affordable rate. Many of our seniors are struggling with what seem to be ever increasing prices at the grocery store and at the pump. Those in government cannot add to that burden. If someone must choose between the daily necessities or affording to pay their taxes then their government has failed them. We must not let that happen," he said.
Orlando resides on Elmwood Avenue in West Ellicott with his wife, Colleen, and their four children. He is employed by the Jamestown Board of Public Utilities. He is a graduate of Falconer Central School and Alfred State College where he received the Orvis Award for being the outstanding senior in his 1999 School of Applied Technology graduating class.
"I would appreciate your support on November 3rd and remember ... I am here to represent you," he said.
