Friendship Fund Begins Christmas Season

The leaves are still on the trees and the ground isn't covered with snow yet but the Friendship Fund has already started preparing for the Christmas Season. There will be a benefit dinner held at Loyalton of Lakewood to kick off the donation campaign. The chicken and biscuit dinner will be held Sunday, from 1 to 4 p.m. Tickets are $6 for adults, $4 for children pre-sale and $7 for adults, $5 for children at the door. All proceeds from the dinner go to benefit the fund. For information call Loyalton at 665-2414.
"We have a lot of planning and fund raising to do in order to be sure that gifts are ready for the big day,'' stated Fund President, Susan Bennett. "The dinner Sunday is only the beginning. There is a lot of preparation that takes place behind the scenes and we can never start too early. Each year we raise the amount needed for that year's budget and this year that will mean looking for donations of $15,000 to $20,000. The request lists have gone out to the nursing and adult homes in the county and once we have those back shopping will begin. Our needs include not only donations of money but also lap robes which are a favorite request from this population. In addition we look for volunteers, either individuals or groups, who are willing to come in and wrap gifts."
Loyalton of Lakewood serves as headquarters for the funds activities. All the gifts are wrapped at that location. To volunteer to wrap call Sue Bennett or Chris Schnars at 665-2414.
