Sectional Tennis Tourney At YMCA

LAKEWOOD - The Section 6 girls tennis tournament will be held today and Saturday at the Lakewood Family YMCA.

Action begins today with singles and doubles at 1 p.m. and resumes at 2 p.m. Saturday. There is no admission price for the event.

Miranda Podlas of Williamsville East, who is the top singles seed, faces Joni Keating of Chautauqua Lake in the opening round.

Rachel Mole of Frewsburg, who was the Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association champion, takes on Ellen Myers of Williamsville South.

LeeAnne Johnson of Falconer clashes with Becky Tobias of Hamburg and Jessica Johnston of Fredonia meets E. Manuel of Williamsville East.

Carolyn Bristol of Orchard Park, the second seed, collides with A. Licata of Lockport.

Other first-round matches are Ashley Chevalier of Alden and Ashley Filey of Kenmore West, Tina Miller of Williamsville South and M. Barmasse of Lockport and M. Wilhoff of Kenmore East and S. Dibben of Iroquois.

Mary Diluca and May Li of Southwestern take on Phillips-Brydges of Orchard Park and Sarah Shembeda and Megan Wells of Olean, the top doubles seed from the CCAA, face Zilka-Lampka of Lancaster.

Margaret Mims and Carly Whisner of Jamestown battle Rowen-Rowen of Williamsville East in another opening round match.

The top seed is Pasier-Tepas of Orchard Park and they take on Canazzi-Buscaglia of Grand Island.

The second seeded Robinson-Matthews of Williamsville North clashes with Post-Hoffman of Gowanda.

Rounding out the pairings are Sylvester-Thomas of Alden against Diamond-Diamond of Kenmore West, Clover-Jelonek of Clarence meets Larson-Ringler of North Tonawanda and Hasselbeck-Schmid of Grand Island takes on Timlin-Gutterman of Amherst.

Sue Teets of Chautauqua Lake is the CCAA chairman. The first-round pairings are as follows:
