Vilardo Running For Westfield Town Board
WESTFIELD - Carl Vilardo is seeking re-election to the town of Westfield Board on Tuesday. He is endorsed by the Republican Party.
A Westfield resident all his life, Vilardo graduated from Westfield Academy and Central School and married the former Roberta Casler of Mayville. He has three children and several grandchildren, and he owns and operates a 200-acre grape farm with his son.
Vilardo has also served in the U.S. Marine Corps for several years and is a member of the Westfield Moose, American Legion and Knights of Columbus organizations.
He was first appointed to the town board in 1971.
"I've tried to keep taxes down, which all the other board members have," Vilardo said. "I think I use common sense, and I'd like to see things like I run my business when things get tight."
Vilardo pointed to several projects which the town has worked on, discussed, or is planning to begin while he has been on the board. These include the East Main water project, wind turbines, job creation and extending water and sewer to Forest Park, the Edgewater condominiums and Shorehaven.
Vilardo said he would like to see the community grow and prosper.
"I think we've tried to move Westfield forward," he said. "We certainly haven't discouraged anyone who has wanted to come in or wanted to do something. I'd like to see the town grow if it can."
He also believes the town and village can continue to share services.
"I'd like to see where the town and village can work together," Vilardo said. "Where we can work together, I'd like to see it done."
Vilardo said Westfield is community which has many things to offer residents and visitors, including multiple churches, a hospital, a library, Lake Erie and easy access to the New York State Thruway and major cities.
"I think it's a friendly community," Vilardo said. "I think we've got friendly people here."
