At 5:58 on Sunday, Oct. 25, 2009, in the evening the Eastern gates of Heaven swung open and Esther R. Jarrell was escorted through by a band of angels. Her earthly exit was as courageous and elegant as we have come to expect. Her heavenly entrance was absolutely glorious. She is finally home. To God be the glory!

Esther was an only child of the late the Rev. George C. and Bertha F. Daugherty, born in Lemoyne, Pa., on Feb. 26, 1912. She married the Rev. J. Temple Jarrell in 1934, and he preceded her to his heavenly home on July 14, 1955. Her father and husband started their ministry with the United Brethren Churches in the Pennsylvania Conference.

Esther enjoyed reading, was an avid gardener and a splendid cook known for her especially good pies. She was a walker with a brisk pace. She taught music in the public schools and lovingly instructed and encouraged hundreds of piano students. She played the organ and directed choirs and dramas for several churches over the years. As a resident of Chautauqua, she had her spot in the Amphitheater for orchestra and symphony concerts. She loved to travel and had many adventures with her good friend Marie. She was a good friend to many and a valued and trusted confident, often to the teens she encountered during the many years of her life living out her faith.

Family includes her three sons: George C. J. Temple and Robert T. who passed away during his teenage years. 10 grandchildren: Candance, Kimberly, Sharon, George, Robert (deceased), Jody and Matthew (deceased), Russell, Joshua Jr. and Reuben. There are six great-grandchildren: Kimberly, Brenda, Robert K., Robert J., Shane and Samantha. Two great-great-grandchildren: Hannah and Ava Esther, with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins in her loving family.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Lind Funeral Home, 805 W. Third St., Jamestown, N.Y. www.lindfuneralhome.com.

A viewing will be held on Thursday, Oct. 29, from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Lind Funeral Home, Jamestown N.Y.

The homecoming celebration will be on Friday, Oct. 30, 2009, in the New Beginnings Church of God Church, 13226 Leslie Road, Meadville, PA 16335. The family will be there for visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. prior to the homecoming celebration. Pastor Harold Farraro will be officiating and the Jamestown Harmony Ex-press Chorus and other musicians will be providing music. www.newbeginningschog.com

A second visitation and service will be held on Saturday, Oct. 31, at 11 a.m. in the Spring Run United Methodist Church, Spring Run, Pa., with interment in the Rest Haven Cemetery, Hanover, Pa.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Chautauqua County, New York, or the church of your choice.
