WESTFIELD - Martha Bills is seeking re-election to the office of Westfield town supervisor.

She is the endorsed candidate of the Republican Party.

"I am honored to serve as your supervisor and am fortunate to be a member of a board that is committed to govern in a responsible and responsive manner,'' she said. ''We are currently involved with several varied initiatives that have an exciting potential to strengthen Westfield's economic outlook and improve our quality of life."

A lifelong resident of Westfield, Mrs. Bills graduated from Westfield Academy and Central School. She received her bachelor's degree from Elmira College with majors in biology and psychology. She and her husband, Bill, live on Elm Street and are the parents of two sons, David and Nathan.

Active in the community, Mrs. Bills has served as a member and past president of the Westfield Academy and Central School board, the YWCA board, the Union Relief Association and the Westfield Women's Organization. She is a member of the First Presbyterian Church, the Chautauqua County Historical Society and a 30-year volunteer and instructor for the American Red Cross.

Mrs. Bills has served as a member of the New York Association of Towns, County Supervisors' Association and the Chautauqua County Ethics Board. Other volunteer commitments include the Westfield Strategic Planning Committee, Concord Grape Belt Heritage Area Management Planning Commission, Farmer's Market Steering Committee, Great Lakes Small Harbors Coalition and the Westfield Development Corp.

Elected to the Westfield Town Board in 1979, she served as deputy supervisor before assuming her current office.

"The Town Board has worked hard to provide efficient services, hold the line on costs while providing tax relief,'' Mrs. Bills said. ''One way we have done this is by increasing the use of shared services and working cooperatively with the village, other municipalities, as well as local organizations. It has also been helpful to have department heads that are committed to achieving these goals. Our clerk, Tim Smith, has mastered his many legal and official duties, and has brought valuable management and technical skills to the office. Our highway superintendent, David Babcock, has shown his ability to get the job done; doing whatever is needed both expertly and efficiently.

"We live in a wonderful community, with many people working hard to make good things happen. I am open to new ideas and constantly striving to find better ways to keep our town on a steady progressive course,'' Mrs. Bills said. ''Working together we can enjoy the special quality of small town life in Westfield and keep it affordable. "
