WESTFIELD - David Spann is seeking a seat on the Westfield Town Council in the Nov. 3 election.

As a resident of Westfield for the majority of his life, Spann said he understands that development must be done with balance, without disrupting the history and green space of the town while pursuing creative and common sense solutions to challenges.

Spann graduated from Westfield Academy and Central School in 1988 before graduating from The College of Environmental Science & Forestry at Syracuse with a degree in forestry. He furthered his education at the State University at Cobleskill earning a degree in fisheries and aquaculture in 1992. After working for an environmental consulting firm in Buffalo for five years he was presented with a job opportunity that allowed him to return to his roots in Westfield.

Spann is employed by The Chautauqua County Soil & Water Conservation District. In addition to his job, he owns and operates a business called Land Management Services which focuses on forest management and natural resource development. His goal is to bring awareness to landowners by encouraging stewardship and ensuring the sustainability of natural resources. His knowledge of the environment and project management has allowed him to help landowners develop the natural resources on their own properties. His growing relationship with local landowners has given him the opportunity to manage more than 5,000 acres of property in Western New York.

In addition to his work responsibilities he is an avid sportsman and a member of various clubs and organizations. They include a board member of the Quality Deer Management Association, a member of The Society of American Foresters, New York Forest Owner's Association, National Wild Turkey Federation, Moose Lodge 18 and the Westfield Fish & Game Club. He is also an active participate in the Boy Scouts of America with his son, Anthony.

Spann has been married to his wife Barbara for 12 years. The Spanns have two children, Anthony, 8, and Morgan, 6. The children both attend school in Westfield. Mrs. Spann is employed as a case manager for Chautauqua County Department of Social Services, and she also teaches religious education at St. Dominic's Church.
