Felix M. Matthews, 85, of 894 Old Pittsfield Road, Pittsfield, Pa., passed away Friday, Oct. 9, 2009, at Warren Manor. Born in Alquippa, Pa., on Dec. 22, 1923, he was a son of the late Josephine (Ziola) and Feliks Matuszewski. Mr. Matthews graduated from Aliquippa High School in 1942. He received his bachelor's degree from Edinboro University in 1949 and his master's degree from Penn State in 1953. He also received additional credits from Penn State University and University of New Hampshire. He served in the U.S. Army as a Sgt. during World War II.

He was married to Eunice (Theobald) Matthews, who preceded him in death in 2001. He served as high school principal at Youngsville High School for many years, retiring in 1982, and had previously taught math at Panama and Corry high schools. He attended Otterbein United Methodist Church in Youngsville. His hobbies included playing baseball, softball, stamp collecting, classical music, hunting, fishing and gardening. Felix was an avid Steelers and Pirates Fan. He was a wrestling coach and referee for many years. He served as president of Corry PSEA, regional president of PSEA, regional president of PASR, president of Youngsville T.V. Corp., was a Brokenstraw Township supervisor, served on Warren County Probation Association, the Authority of Canterbury Court, board of directors for Human Services, was a member of Halgren-Wilcox Post 658 of the American Legion of Youngsville and the Viking Club.

Felix is survived by two sons, Ray (Janis) J. Matthews, of Angier, N.C. and Alan (Sherri) L. Matthews of North Chili, N.Y.; a brother, Walter Matuszewski of Arnold, Pa.; six granchildren, Jessica Day, Linsey, William, Nathaniel, Kathleen and Kristen Matthews; and several nieces and nephews. Friends are invited to call Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at McKinney Funeral Homes and Cremation Services in Youngsville. A funeral ser-vice will be held at Otterbein U.M. Church, Pittsfield, Pa., at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 14, with the Pastor Steve Gruver of-ficiating. Graveside Services with full military honors will follow in Youngsville Cemetery.
