Ivan P. Wood, 85, of 45 Panama-Bear Lake Road, Panama, N.Y., died at 7:15 a.m. Friday, Oct. 9, 2009, at Select Specialty Hospital in Erie, Pa., following compli-cations after surgery.
Mr. Wood was born Sept. 22, 1925, in Warren, Pa., the son of Paul and (Pearl) Mae Wood. He was a gra-duate of Russell Pennsyl-vania High School Class of 1942.
Mr. Wood had a varied career. He was a landsman for various gas and oil ex-ploration companies. He managed the company Windows, Doors and More in Detroit, Mich. He owned and operated the Ashland Fuel Company in Kennedy, N.Y. For many years, he was an agent for Nation-wide Insurance in James-town, N.Y. He started his career as a dairy farmer and managed UpAway Farm in Ashland, N.Y. from 1954 to 1964.
Mr. Wood was a World War II Army veteran and very active in the Lake-wood Legion. He served as a post commander and president of the board of directors. He was one of the gentlemen instrumental in building the current post. He was an active member of Panama Methodist Church.
Mr. Wood is survived by his children: Don Wood (Linda) of Ashville, NY., Dan Wood of Phoenix, Ariz., Rosann Faull (Arthur) of Jacksonville, Fla., Robin Hurst (Richard) of Framing-ham, Mass., and Yvonnie Wolf (Bruce) of Statesville, N.C. His grandchildren: Curtis Wood (Laura) of Pa-nama, N.Y., Christine Hur-ley (Don) of Rochester, N.Y., Dan Wood Jr (Cindy) of Bolingbrook, Ill., Alice Hurst (Framingham, Mass.), Richard Hurst Jr. (Framing-ham, Mass.), Michelle Sa-dowsky (Michael) of Fal-coner, N.Y., and David Johnson of Herndon, Va. He is also survived by many great-grandchildren; two brothers: Ted Wood (Midge), Warren, Pa., and Tom Wood, (Sally) Pal-myra, Pa.; and a sister, Pat (Marshall) Peterson, Wal-nut Creek, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by his first wife of 46 years, Evelyn Wood; his second wife of five years, Eleanor Wood; his parents; a sister, Coral Yusdach; and a brother, Clair Wood.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Lind Funeral Home.
The Rev. Stephen J. Wiggers, pastor of Panama United Methodist Church will officiate.
Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 6 p.m. Sa-turday in the funeral home.
Mr. Wood's family re-quests donations in his memory are to be made to the Panama Volunteer Fire Department's Ambulance Fund.
