Rev. Gloria J. Hodge “Beloved Mother, Grandmother, Sister and Friend”

MILLPORT, Pa. - The Rev. Gloria J. Hodge, 84, of Millport, a former longtime resident of Ulysses, Pa., went to be with the Lord on Monday, Oct. 5, 2009, surrounded by her loving family, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Sharron and Scott Gustin, after a long and courageous battle with cancer while under hospice care.
Born July 4, 1925, in Randolph, N.Y., she was a daughter of Leon V. and Cora E. Grant Hettenbaugh. On June 16, 1949, in Falconer, N.Y., she married Bernard E. Hodge, who died on March 8, 1983.
The Rev. Hodge was a graduate of Randolph Central School, Randolph, N.Y. and was a graduate of the first graduating class of Zion Ministry Institution in Waverly, N.Y. She later earned her master's degree in theology. An evangelist, the Rev. Hodge served as a pastor for many years in Cameron, N.Y. She also was a teacher and an international missionary in Honduras, El Salvador, and Guatemala.
She was a member of Zion Christian Fellowship in Ulysses, Pa. She enjoyed cooking and was well known for baking delicious rolls. She loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them. Her greatest love was the Lord.
Surviving are two sons: Brian W. (Kathie) Hodge of Falconer, N.Y., and Dennis B. (Beth) Hodge of Hanover, Md.; a daughter, Sharron D. (Scott) Gustin of Millport; seven grandchildren: Benjamin Hodge, Timothy Gustin, Matthew Gustin, Amanda (Tim Lambert) Hodge-Lambert, Michael Gustin, Kevin Hodge and Kathryn Hodge; two brothers: Leon Hettenbaugh Jr. of Warren, Pa., and Donald (LauraLee) Hettenbaugh of Randolph, N.Y.; a sister, June Olson of Middlebury, Vt.; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, the Rev. Hodge was predeceased by a grandson, Nathan Allen Gustin; three brothers: Arwood Hettenbaugh, Leland Hettenbaugh, and Fredrick Hettenbaugh; and two sisters: Gladys Lockwood and Florence Rankin.
Friends may call on Friday from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, 118 South Union St., Shinglehouse, Pa., where funeral services will be held on Saturday, Oct. 10, 2009, at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Paul Carem, pastor of Zion Christian Fellowship, officiating. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery, Falconer, N.Y.
