John R. VanDyke, age 81, of 108 Prospect St., Sherman, N.Y., passed away Saturday, Sept. 26, 2009, at his home.
He was born on Nov. 13, 1927, in Harrisville, Pa., to Mr. and Mrs. Thomas VanDyke.
John enjoyed hunting and reading, and his nieces and nephews running in and out. He had served in the U.S. Army, and also National Guard, retiring in 1987.
John is survived by his wife, Debra VanDyke, whom married July 23, 1977, in Sherman, N.Y.; his sons, James Vandyke, Columbus, Pa.; Thomas (wife, Christina) VanDyke, Erie, Pa; grandchildren, Aaron, John and Rhyannon Leigh VanDyke of Erie, Pa.; and several relatives throughout the country.
He was preceded in death by a aon, John Lee VanDyke, 1984.
The family will receive friends at Spitzer Funeral Home on Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2009, from 7 to 9 p.m. The funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. Interment will be at Sherman Cemetery.
