Josephine Munella Mason, 104, entered into eternal rest on Monday, Sept. 7, 2009, at the Heritage Green Health Care Center. She resided at 129 Hall Ave., Jamestown for 65 years and was lovingly cared for at Tanglewood Manor since 2003.
She was born May 30, 1905, in Falls Creek, Pa., the daughter of Joseph and Rose Anzelone Munella
Mrs. Mason was the widow of Samuel J. Mason whom she married Oct. 22, 1922, in St. James Catholic Church and died Jan. 22, 1985. She and Mr. Mason founded Mason Carvings, Inc. where she was the bookkeeper and office manager until they retired in 1965.
She was a devoted family matriarch who will always be remembered as a caregiver to four generations of her family. She was a communicant at St. James Catholic Church and enjoyed gardening, knitting, watching cooking programs and the New York Yankees.
Surviving are four grandchildren: Thomas S. (Nancy) Mason, Mary Jo (Sebastian) Montagna, and Samuel J. (Jennifer) Mason, all of Jamestown, and Mark S. (Lori) Mason of Hope Mills, N.C.; a daughter-in-law: Janice Mason of Greensboro, N.C.; eight great-grandchildren: Lori (Dewey) Varner of Kennedy, Michael (Heather) Mason of Jamestown, Matthew Mason of Lexington, Ky., Jessica Mason of Ohio State University, Sondra Mason of Geneseo College, Jeana and Samantha Mason, both of Jamestown, and Samuel Mason of Hope Mills, N.C.; five great-great-grandchildren: Jacob and Joseph Varner, Thomas, Nicholas and Johnas Mason.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by two sons: Joseph S. Mason, who died in 2001, and Samuel T. Mason in 1994; a sister, Rose Guarnieri in 2004; and three brothers: Charles Munella in 1993, and infants, Louis and Samuel Munella.
The Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Joseph M. Dowdell, pastor of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, will officiate. Entombment will be in the Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m., Wednesday in the funeral home.
The family suggests in lieu of flowers that memorials be made to Shriners Hospital for Children, 1645 W. Eighth St, Erie, PA 16505-5097.
