Ripley School Board Discusses Issues
By S. Alexander Gerould, editorial@post-journal.comRIPLEY - At the Ripley Central School Board meeting, John Frey, district business manager, said the district had recently completed its first payroll through the central business office.
However, he said there were some minor problems and issues along the way.
"I think we have some growing pains," Frey said, "But I think once those are done, we'll have other services."
Sue Hammond, high school principal, updated the board on district's recent Regents testing. She said the school saw all students passing the state assessments in some areas and mastery has improved.
"Our students performed quite well, as did the teachers," she said. "We did quite well. The students worked hard and the teachers worked hard."
John Hogan, interim superintendent, also discussed with the board his thoughts on which direction the district should go after the Westfield Academy and Central School Board of Education decided against continuing merger discussions.
"Now it's a matter of what options this board wants to consider," Hogan said.
Some options, Hogan said, include a regional high school and magnate schools. He also said he and Bentley will meet with Robert Guiffreda, Erie 2-Chautauqua-Cattaraugus BOCES superintendent, to discuss the district's future.
"It's getting the pieces in place to do something," Hogan said.
