CONEWANGO VALLEY, N.Y. - Roberta M. Horton, 94, of Route 241, Conewango Valley, passed away Wednesday, July 22, 2009, in Lakeshore Hospital in Irving, after a brief illness.
She was born July 1, 1915, in Ellington, the daughter of the late Laverne and Matie Hagerdon Williams. She was a 1934 graduate of Ellington High School.
She had been active on the Horton family dairy for most her life where she was the bookkeeper and was a homemaker. In earlier years she had been the librarian at the Farman Free Library in Ellington from 1939 to 1949. She enjoyed spending time on the farm and knitting, yarning and raising her canaries.
She is survived by a son, J. Stewart Horton of Conewango Valley; three grandchildren: Amy Griffin, Eric and Rick Chapman; nieces: Beatrice Manske, Eileen Peterson and Alice Williams.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Stephen Horton, whom she married in 1947, and who preceded her in 1978; a son, James ''JT'' Horton, who passed away Aug. 6, 2001; and three brothers: Ward, Stan and Ralph Williams.
The family will be present to receive family and friends from noon to 2 p.m. Friday (July 24, 2009) in the VanRensselaer & Son Funeral Home, 14 Church St., Randolph, where funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday.
