Rose Mazzone Jengo, 99, of the Lutheran Home and Rehabilitation Center, formerly of Shaw Avenue, died at 9:50 p.m. Sunday (July 19, 2009), in the nursing facility.

She was born in Vieste, Italy, on Sept. 12, 1909, the daughter of Gaetano and Lucia Tedeschi Mazzone.

Rose was employed at the former Halls National Worsted Mills for many years and later became the owner and operator with her sister, Lena Ceglia of C & J Pizza Shop on Winsor Street from 1955 to 1975. She was a communicant of St. James Catholic Church and a member of the Altar and Rosary Society.

Rose's happy and generous spirit was shared with everyone fortunate enough to know her. She had a great love of her church and the Lord, and always gave of herself to anyone that needed her. She loved to tell stories of her childhood, brothers and sisters, sons and her friends. These stories have been passed on to grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who in turn each had a special story about Grandma.

Everyone who knew her loved her and cherished their time spent with her. Rose never had an unkind word for anyone who knew her.

She is survived by two sons: Michael Jengo Jr., Dublin, Calif., and Salvatore ''Sam'' (Laurie) Jengo, Jamestown; eight grandchildren: Thomas M. Jengo, John R. Jengo and Teresa (Joel) Tobias, Jamestown, Rosanne Bell, Wellsville, N.Y., Michael P. Jengo, Ft. Myers, Fla., Kurt Greathouse, Australia, Linda Jengo, North Carolina, and Corrine Jengo, San Francisco, Calif.; 11 great-grandchildren: Joshua and Joseph Tobias, Jamestown, Amanda Jengo, Wesleyville, Pa., Taylor and Ian Bell, Wellsville, N.Y., Adam and Andrew Greathouse, Ohio, Harley, David and Kristen Jengo, New York, and Monica Bermudez, Ft. Myers, Fla.; and a brother, Frank Mazzone, Sonoma, Calif.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Michael H. Jengo, whom she married in 1932 in St. James Catholic Church, and who died in 1989; four brothers: Thomas, James, Nicholas and Joseph Mazzone; three sisters: Lena Ceglia, Antionette Antionettie and Mary Bombola; a granddaughter, Evelyn R. Bermudez; and a great-grandson Jonathan (Sam) Jengo.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday in St. James Catholic Church. The Rev. Robert Stolinski, pastor, will be the celebrant. Burial will be in Sunset Cemetery.

Friends will be received on Thursday morning from 10 to 10:45 a.m. in the Hubert Funeral Home and Cremation Services.

Memorials may be made to the St. James Altar and Rosary Society, 27 Allen St., Jamestown.
