Sarah Jordan Ufnal
Sarah Jordan Ufnal, 85, a resident of the Georgia Bell Apartments, and a retired bus driver for Pine Valley Central School, where she worked for 20 years, died Thursday, July 16, 2009.
She was born Jan. 27, 1924, in Hazleton, Pa., the daughter of Ward D. and Mabel L. (Spore) Jordan. She owned and operated Sarah Jordan Ceramics and taught classes for many years and was known for her judging talents at art shows. Sarah was a member of the Cherry Creek-Leon UMC, where she was the organist for many years and filled several offices within the church.
She is survived by four daughters: Nina (Robert) Ufnal-Denton of Cherry Creek, N.Y., Laura D. (John) Gotro of Pebble Beach, Calif., Christine S. (William) Dekle of Tallahassee, Fla., Adrienne U. (James) Francis of Tallahassee, Fla.; one grandson, J. Jordan Francis of Tallahassee, Fla.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Joseph H. Ufnal; her brother, James Jordan; and her two sisters: Emily Schey and Bessie Meier.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 22, 2009, at 11 a.m. at Hills Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Burton L. Smith Jr., former pastor of Cherry Creek UMC, will officiate. Burial will be in the Cherry Creek Central Cemetery in the village of Cherry Creek.
Visitation will be held at the funeral chapel today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
