RANDOLPH, N.Y. - Joy M. Barber Jones, 73, of Route 394, Town of Coldspring, passed away Wednesday, July 15, 2009,
at home surrounded by her loving family.
She was born Aug. 21, 1935, in the town of Randolph, the daughter of the late Orrason J. and Margel Myers Barber.
She was a graduate of Frewsburg Central School. Mrs. Jones was co-owner of Jones Well Drilling in Randolph for 40 years along with her husband and son, where she was the secretary and treasurer. In earlier years, she had worked at the Jamestown Metal Corporation, prior to raising her family.
Joy was a member of the East Randolph Methodist Church, where she was the long time treasurer. She will be remembered for her loving adoration and commitment to her family. Over the years, she created a very strong bond with all of her grandchildren and enjoyed taking them to church, watching their sporting events, and cooking them
her famous pancakes. She especially looked forward to the holidays when her home would be filled with family and friends, enjoying her home cooked meals. She also enjoyed spending time in her many gardens, sewing and attending paint classes with Helen Gilbert and her many paint class friends. She was an inspiration to all who knew her for her strong spirit and never ending faith regardless of the circumstance. She had the ability to reach out to everyone around her and put a lasting impression on their hearts. She will be dearly missed by many including all of those who came to know her as Grammy Joy over the years, and especially her longtime best friend Loretta Adams.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years, James H. Jones, whom she married on Aug. 22, 1953, in Frewsburg: a son: Michael (Pam) Jones of Randolph; three daughters: Mindy Pedacchio of Napoli, Betty (Skip) Estes of South Hiram, Maine, and Linda (Gary) Hinman of Jamestown; a son-in-law, Bill Pedacchio of Randolph; a brother, Jerry (Carol) Barber of Virginia; two sisters: Jackie Gundstrom of Frewsburg, and Joan (Milton) McIntyre of East Corning, N.Y.; 10 grandchildren: Tyson (Misty) Pedacchio, Kurt (Jodee) Jones, Megan (Joe) Crosson, Karah Jones, Melissa, Mandy, Michelle and Terry Hinman, Parker and Emma Estes; and great-grandson, Griffin (Jones) Best.
She was preceded in death by two granddaughters: Katie Marie Jones and Lindsey Joy Pedacchio.
A celebration of life memorial will be held on Saturday, July 18, 2009, at 11 a.m. in the East Ran-dolph United Methodist Church. Pastor Abel Roy will officiate. The family will be present to receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday July 17, 2009, in the VanRensselaer & Son Funeral Home, 14 Church St., Randolph.
