Beth E. Thompson, 86, of Horseheads, N.Y., passed away on Friday, June 5, 2009, at home.
Mrs. Thompson was born July 2, 1922, in Clymer, N.Y., the daughter of the late Clarence and Nettie Hogenboom Rhebergen.
Beth married her hus-band, Ralph A. Thompson Jr. on Feb. 3, 1945, and he pre-deceased her on June 19, 1999. She was also pre-deceased by her sister, Winifred Lewellen.
Beth graduated from Clymer High School in 1940 and attended Hope College. She received her registered nursing degree in 1944 and her Bachelor of Science degree from Elmira College in 1970. Mrs. Thompson taught nursing at Corning Community College from 1965 to 1985, retiring as assistant profes-sor of nursing.
She was very active and served on the board of dire-tors for Chemung County Association of Retarded Ci-tizens and The Arnot Og-den Medical Center Auxili-ary. Mrs. Thompson also volunteered her time at Meals on Wheels, The Ar-not Ogden Medical Center, Southern Tier Hospice and The Big Flatt Historical So-ciety. She was a member of The First United Methodist Church of Horseheads, N.Y.
Mrs. Thompson loved her family and friends and treasured her visits with her grandchildren.
Mrs. Thompson is sur-vived by her loving and de-voted children: Dan L. Thompson of Horsehead, N.Y., Jack A. Thompson of Boulder, Colo., and Bonnie Thompson of Elmira, N.Y.; grandchildren: Liam Thompson-Jones, Hendrix Hunter Hughes and Kings-ton Lee Hughes; several nieces, nephews, cousins and a a host of caring friends.
It was Beth's wishes that she remembered through memorials to Chemung A.R.C., 711 Sullivan St., Elmira, NY 14901.
