CLCS Names May Citizens Of The Month

POSTED: July 1, 2009

Middle grades Citizens of the Month for May at Chautauqua Lake Central School are Kathryn Doyle, Kourtney Shearer, Aili Makuch and Angelique Schalk-Ruff.

Kathryn Doyle is a sixth-grader and the daughter of Amy Schulz of Ashville and Jim Doyle of Warren, Pa. Math and social studies are Katie's favorite subjects in school. Katie plays Southern Tier Softball and also plays basketball at the YMCA.

Kourtney Shearer, also a sixth-grader, is the daughter of Karin and Randy Shearer of Ashville. Her favorite subjects in school include math, science and English. Kourtney plays Southern Tier Softball and plays with the Southwestern Soccer Club.

Seventh-grader Aili Makuch is the daughter of Sandra Makuch of Mayville and Bill Makuch of Forestville. English and science are her favorite classes in school. Aili also sings in the chorus. Outside of school she enjoys horseback riding.

Angelique ''Dori'' Schalk-Ruff is the daughter of Cindy Schalk-Ruff and Jerry Ruff of Mayville. She is an eighth-grader. Her favorite subject in school is history. Dori plays flute in the band. She enjoys playing tennis and playing the guitar.

The student recognition program honors students in sixth, seventh and eighth grades whose classroom performance, personality traits and work ethic set them apart.

Citizens of the Month are selected by their grade-level teaching teams. Teachers look for outstanding effort and improvement in the classroom, and for students who are polite, friendly, and helpful to others and who work well with both their teachers and their peers. Although grades often reflect the qualities considered in Citizens of the Month, and although many well-rounded students participate in extra-curricular activities, awards are not based on grades or extra-curricular involvement.
