Frederick S. Bauer

SUGAR GROVE, Pa. - Frederick S. Bauer, 83, of Sugar Grove, Pa., passed away June 8, 2009, peace-fully at his home surround-ed by his family and under the wonderful care of Hos-pice of Warren County.

Mr. Bauer was born in Titusville, Pa., on July 6, 1925. He graduated from Titusville High School, earned a Bachelor of Sience in education from Slippery Rock University, a Master of Arts from Syracuse University and completed additional coursework at Penn State.

His 37 years in education began at Sugar Grove High School. He served for many years as a teacher, football coach, athletic director and principal at Eisenhower High School having also taught at Youngsville High School and served as assis-tant principal at Sheffield High School.

He and Norge Luvison started the football program at Sugar Grove and subse-quently at Eisenhower High School. He coached and refereed basketball, football, baseball and track.

He served as president of the NW Region and the Warren County Chapters of the PSEA, and was a life-time member of PSEA and NEA and served as Northwest Region Director and president of the Warren -Forest County Pen-nyslvania State Association of School Retirees.

He served as Sugar Grove Township supervisor for 13 years and as a volunteer with the Sugar Grove Fire Department, where he achieved emeritus recogni-tion. A veteran of World War II, he was a member of Sugar Grove American Le-gion Post 758. He was an avid bowler, golfer and traveler, who shot a "hole in one" at Willow Ridge Golf Course at the age of 77. He attended St. Luke's Catholic Church of Youngsville.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Frances (Hajzus) Bauer; four chil-dren: Bill and his wife, Nicole of Mercer Island, Wash., Sue and her hus-band, Rich Weber of Erie, Pa., Connie and her hus-band, Bill Hawkins of Ash-ville, N.Y., and Attorney David Bauer and his wife, Laura of Sugar Grove; 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild also sur-vive. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.

No calling hours will be observed. Friends are invit-ed to attend the funeral mass to be held on Thurs-day, June 11, 2009, at 1 p.m at St. Luke's Catholic Church of Youngsville. Fa-ther John Neff, will offici-ate. Private burial will be at the convenience of the fam-ily.

In lieu of flowers, his family suggests memorials be made to St. Luke's Catholic Church of Youngsville, the Sugar Grove Volunteer Fire Department, the Eisen- hower Sports Boosters or to Warren County Hospice.
