Laura I. Herring
Loving Mother and GrandmotherLaura I. Herring, 77, of Friendship, N.Y., passed away Thursday, April 24, 2009, in Cuba Memorial Hospital's palliative care unit, after a courageous bat-tle with cancer.
Born on Aug. 8, 1931, in Richburg, N.Y., she was the daugther of Samuel E. Veronica B. Potter Earll. On June 12, 1951, she married Robert L. Herring, who predeceased her on Feb. 13, 2000.
Laura had worked on the Fort Benning, Ga., Army post in the civilian person-nel office for two years dur-ing the Korean conflict.. Prior to her retirement on March 1, 1991, she was em-ployed by the Acme Elec-tric Corporation for 37 years in both the Cuba and Hinsdale plants, where she worked in different capaci-ties including supervisor for many years.
Mrs. Herring was most at peace in her country home, where she enjoyed reading, bird watching, gardening, baking, cooking, and shar-ing her culinary talents with the family and friends around her. She also made beautiful quilts for her chil-dren and grandchildren. She was an avid sports fan who followed the Buffalo Bills, Buffalo Sabres and Chicago Bears.
She is survived by two sons: Gregory J. Herring of Olean, and Roderick J. (Colette) Shaw Herring of Henrietta, N.Y.; a daughter, Mereda E. (Lindsey) Shel-ley of Randolph; and three grandchildren: Justin Shel-ley of St. Augustine, Fla., Erick Shelley of Randolph, N.Y., and Samantha Herring of Henrietta.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by an infant sister, Lucille Marie.
Friends may call at the Mark F. Rinker Funeral Home & Memorial Service, 9 Bull St., Cuba, on Sun-day, April 26, 2009, from noon to 3 p.m. at which time funeral services will be held. The Rev. Leslie E. Chambers, pastor of the West Clarksville Baptist Church, will officiate.
Burial will be in West Clarksville Cemetery, town of Clarksville, N.Y.
