Bruce Edward Meyers
CATTARAUGUS - Bruce Edward Meyers, 61, a security guard for Seneca Allegany Gaming Commission, where he worked for three years, died Wednesday, March 4, 2009, at 6251 Barker Road in Cattaraugus, N.Y.
He was born Sept. 1, 1947, in Jamestown, N.Y., the son of Greydon V. and the late Marvel (Klens) Meyers.
He served in the Army during the Vietnam era having attained the rank of sergeant, enlisting on May 6, 1969, at Jacksonville, Fla. and discharged on Jan. 11, 1972 at Fort Dix, N.J.
He also worked as a truck driver doing long distance hauling. He owned and operated Meyers and Son Trucking. He worked in the lab at Carnation Co. Milk Plant in South Dayton for about 20 years.
Bruce enjoyed riding his motorcycle and participating in charity runs. He was privileged to be a member of the Apheresis Unit of the Greater Buffalo Chapter Red Cross, where he was one of the early bone marrow donors.
He is survived by his wife, Susan J. (Meyers) Meyers of Cattaraugus, N.Y.; a son, Ed O. Meyers of Cattaraugus; his father, Greydon V. Meyers of Dublin, Ga.; and two brothers: Kenneth Meyers of Kissimmee, Fla., and Jerome (Darla) Meyers of Dublin, Ga.
Besides his mother he was preceded in death by his brother, Vincent Meyers.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 7, 2009, at 11 a.m. at Hills Funeral Chapel, 55 South Main St., Cattaraugus, N.Y. Pastor Matthew Eisenhower of Springville Crossing Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Villenova Cemetery in the Town of Villenova.
Visitation will be held at the funeral chapel, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
