Raymond E. Endress, 73, of 169 W. Main St., Sher-man, N.Y., died at 12:15 p.m. Friday, December 19, 2008, at his home.

He was born May 7, 1935, in Sherman, New York, the son of the late George F. and Nan R. Hurlburt Endress Sr.

He graduated from Sher-man Central School in 1954 and served in the U.S. Navy SEABEES Division, sta-tioned in the Barbados and Grand Turk and New Foun-land. Ray was a former em-ployee of the town of Sher-man Highway Department until becoming disabled in 1974. He was a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church in Mayville and an associate member of the Sherman Community Church.

He was an exempt member of the Stanley Hose Company Fire Department and a past member of the Mayville Area Jaycees.

Surviving are his wife, Bessie Higginbotham En-dress of Sherman, N.Y., whom he married November 29, 1958; children Scott (wife Corrie) Endress of Dunkirk, N.Y., Brian (wife Autum) Endress of Erie, Pa., Kim Endress of Dunkirk, N.Y. and Karol (husband Lee) Starvaggi of Erie, Pa.; 13 grandsons: Scott Endress Jr., Steve Endress, Jonathan Endress, Cuba Endress, Ca-valier Endress, Ontario En-dress, Justin Sexton, Nathan Endress, Craig Endress, Christopher Endress, Austin Zachary, Rad Starvaggi and Max Starvaggi; two grand-daughters: Jerrica Lea Ro-binson and Jillian Endress; two great-grandsons: Jonathan Endress Jr. and Isi-ah Bremmer, two great-grandaughters: Kalea and Shante Endress; his brother, George F. (wife Bar-bara) Endress Jr. of Ripley, N.Y., and his sister, Ruth Palmer of Sevierville, Tenn.

The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, De-cember 23, 2008, at the Spitzer Funeral Home, Sher-man, with the Rev. Roger Westley, pastor of the Sher-man Community Church, of-ficiating. Burial will be in Sherman Cemetery.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
