A lake-effect snow warning was issued for Chautauqua and Cattaraugus counties on Monday, with motorists encouraged to drive safely in the inclement conditions.
Undersheriff Charles Holder said there were been multiple accidents Sunday night and Monday, especially in the the middle areas of the county, which have seen more snowfall.
One accident early Monday afternoon left three separate motorists unharmed after an collision on Route 60 in the Town of Charlotte. According to police, Linda Braun of Jamestown lost control of her vehicle due to the road conditions and traveled into the opposite lane where she was then struck by Raymond Taylor of Walworth N.Y.. George Male of Columbia, Pa., attempted to avoid the accident, but stuck Braun's vehicle before coming to a stop in a ditch on the side of the road.
Holder said, besides having winter tires put on motor vehicles, drivers should increase the stopping distance between themselves and other drivers on the road.
''Use extreme caution until you get your winter driving skills back,'' Holder said.
