FORESTVILLE - The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away. On October 6, 2008, a beautiful Monday morning, the Lord took Ada ''Acey'' Carol Zahm to her final resting place. That is what the Lord took. What the Lord gave was wonderful memories.
Ada was born Feb. 7, 1934, in the town of Villenova to the late Lyle G. and Grace (Hemphill) Sager. During her early years, she was accompanied with two brothers: Rodney Sager of Jamestown and Alvin (wife, Helen) Sager of Brocton; and a sister, Rachael (husband, Robert) Scholer of Mexico.
Ada had a love for horses as a young girl in Hamlet. Later, she moved to Zahm Road, Forestville, where her family would own a dairy farm. She graduated from Forestville Central School, class of 1952 and on May 23, 1953, she married Dallas Zahm in the Hamlet United Methodist Church. Together they owned and operated their own dairy farm on Zahm Road.
During their time together, Dallas and Ada would meet and keep many good friends. Ada enjoyed her trips with Dallas out West. During their marriage, they had a son, Jeffery Zahm (wife, Cathy) and a daughter, Tracy Zahm, both residing in Forestville.
With the passing of her husband on Dec. 5, 1995, she embarked on another chapter of her life. This included taking care of people in their homes. Ada loved this job. Meeting the families, she would almost become part of that family. She also joined the South Dayton Firebelles, another job that she loved and never complained about. Ada was also an avid card player, enjoyed bowling and on occasion going to the casino. She did well with lottery scratchoffs. Gardening and doing yard work played an important role in all of Ada's life. She enjoyed nature and her animals, including cats, dogs, ferrets and bunnies. She however did not care too much for chickens.
Family was the heart and soul of Ada. She enjoyed her 4 grandchildren: Mrs. Brian (Amanda) Connolly of Buffalo, Erica Zahm (fiance, Russ Johnson) of Cary, N.C., Katie Leigh Oleniacz and Zachary Zahm, both of Forestville; and her two great-grandchildren: Caitlin Connolly and Riley Johnson. She is also survived by several nieces & nephews.
Now she is smiling and dancing with her beloved Dallas. We will miss her very much down here, but the beautiful memories she has woven into everyone's life that she has touched, will live forever.
Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a sister-in-law, Luella ''Shorty'' Sager.
Friends are welcome to call at the Riles & Woolley Funeral Home, 39 Main St., Forestville on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. from where funeral services will be held Friday morning at 11 o'clock, with the Rev. Pamela Newton, associate pastor of Harvest Chapel Free Methodist Church, Fredonia, officiating. Interment will follow in Villenova Cemetery, South Dayton.
The family suggests memorials may be made either to the South Dayton Fire Belles, 34 Maple St., South Dayton, NY, 14138 or to any animal shelter. To send condolences go to www. riles and woolleyfuneralhome.com.
