» NIE AuctionLarry Barmore of Gerry imagined he might win something like a set of magnets or similar modest door prize when he dropped a business card into a bowl to enter a drawing at the kickoff of Gulfstream International service to the Chautauqua County Airport.
He underestimated his luck just a bit that day.
Barmore won two airline tickets flying from the county airport to any Continental Airlines/Gulfstream destination in the U.S. lower 48, Canada, Mexico, Central America or the Caribbean. The tickets are good through next September, courtesy of Continental Airlines.
He won't be using them, though. He has turned his good fortune into a lucky day for students and teachers across the county who use The Post-Journal in their classrooms.
Barmore, a Chautauqua County legislator representing District 9, has donated those tickets to The Post-Journal auction benefiting the Newspaper in Education Fund, which provides newspapers for classroom instruction for any schools or teachers who request them.
The tickets have a top value of about $1,500, depending on what destination is chosen. They will be added to the www.post-journal.com bidding site and 487-1222 bidding site at Item 1 as of 8 a.m. Monday. The tickets have $200 minimum bid requirement.
Gulfstream provides daily service from Chautauqua County Airport to Cleveland Hopkins International Airport, connecting with Continental Airlines.
