Fern Walker Nelson, 88, formerly of Bemus Point and Florida, went home to be with her Lord Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2008, in the Heritage Village Rehab and Skilled Nursing Facility.
She was born July 9, 1920, in Jamestown, the daughter of John M. and Elora Hoard Walker. She resided in Bemus Point until 1975, returning to the area in 2001 to be near to family.
Fern was a graduate of Jamestown High School and attended floral design school in Boston. For many years, Fern worked at the former Nelson's Department Store and later worked as a teller at the First National Bank in Jamestown.
She was a very active member of the Ellery Baptist Church and the Sebring Grace Brethren Church in Florida.
Fern was a master gardener. Her gardens and lily pool in Florida were beautiful and there was always a pet kitty or two around. She enjoyed collecting sea shells and owls, camping, fishing, sewing, and was a gourmet cook.
Surviving are two sisters: Jackie Watkins and Kay Sfetko, both of Jamestown; two brothers, Rod Walker of Bemus Point, and Clark Walker of Panama.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Malcolm P. Nelson who died July 22, 1986 in Florida; and her two year old son, Robin.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Samuel Shreffler, Heritage Village chaplain, will officiate. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery.
