Elaine Hannah Eugenia Almleaf

Elaine Hannah Eugenia Almleaf, 79, of Corry Manor, formerly of 80 Tower St., and 124 Big Tree Road, entered into eternal Christian life at 3:15 p.m. Sunday (Sept. 28, 2008), surrounded by family and loved ones, in Corry Memorial Hospital.

She was the beloved widow of Hans Gunnard Eric Almleaf, whom she married Aug. 3, 1946 in First Lutheran Church and who died June 22, 2003.

A lifelong area resident, she was born Jan. 30, 1929, in Jamestown, and was the daughter of the late Adolf and Axelia Westman Carlson.

Elaine attended Jamestown High School. and had been employed by Biglows Department Store in Jamestown, and in earlier years at Sylvania Electric as part of the support network stateside during the World War II. In her earlier years, she loved the great outdoors. Many happy seasons were spent camping and walking with her husband along the Lake Erie shorelands, and outdoor picnics year round. She espcially loved the winter season, and ice skating was a joy to Elaine as a young girl, and as a wife, and with her sons as they grew up in Busti, NY. In her midlife years, her grandchildren were a special joy to her, and also participating in area flea markets and garage sales. As she enter her later years, she enjoyed her days at the Chautauqua Adult Day Care Center, where she made many new friends, and reaquainted with friends past.

She was a member of First Lutheran Church.

Surviving are two sons: L. David Almleaf of Utica, N.Y. and Kevin E. Almleaf of Jamestown; eight grandchildren: Eric Almleaf, Inga Thrasher, Briana Almleaf, Kristen Almleaf, Devin Almleaf, Gregory Powell, Vanessa VonVolen, and Jonathan Crist; eight great-grandchildren: Noah Thrasher, Derek Thrasher, Mariah Thrasher, Aaron Thrasher, David Almleaf, Ashlee and Ethan Powell, and Annalynn Grace Crist.

She was preceded in death by five sisters: Margaret Danner, Eleanor Conrad, Linnea Nyman, Dorothy Thorsen and Ethel Mae Blanchard; and a brother, Adolph Carlson.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the Falconer Funeral Home. The Rev. Timothy Hoyer, will officiate. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery.

Friends will be received by the family from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.
