Melvin C. ‘‘Mel’’ Booth

CONEWANGO - Melvin C. ''Mel'' Booth, 77, of Route 241, Conewango, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2008 in WCA Hospital, after a brief illness with cancer.

He was born July 26, 1931, in Olean, the son of the late Clarence E. and Naomi Griffith Booth.

He attended school in Cherry Creek, and had retired in 1893 from the New York State of Transportation as a truck driver. In earlier years had worked for Hopes Windows in Jamestown and also in construction. He was an exempt member of the Conewango Volunteer Fire Department and was a member of the Randolph Moose Lodge 2273. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing cards with his many friends and family, as well as watching baseball on T.V. and playing with the Jamestown Old Timers Baseball team.

Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Alice M. Galbraith Booth, whom he married Jan. 28, 1950 in Kimble Stand, N.Y.; three sons: David Booth of Conewango, M. Terry (Michelle) Booth of Onoville and Steven (Deborah) Booth of Fort Collins, Colo;, seven grandchildren: Holly Gutherie, Tracey Kennedy, Brian, Tyler, Trisha, Lori and Andy Booth.

Mel was preceded in death by a grandson, Scott Booth; two brothers: Donald and Kenneth Booth; three sisters: Marsha Booth, Erma Jean Dixon and Shirley Mae Howe.

There will be no visitation or funeral services held. Arrangements are entrusted to the Van Rensselaer & Son Funeral Home, 14 Church St., Randolph.
