Sending an asthmatic child back to school can be traumatic, but good planning will help the school and child feel confident about dealing with asthma.
The American Association for Respiratory Care offers these tips:
Make sure the child has an Asthma Action Plan and share it with school staff
Know the school's rules regarding asthma meds
Be sure the school has current contact information for parents and at least two back-up individuals.
Speak personally with all teachers involved about a child's asthma and the action plan in case of attack.
