Office For The Aging Slates Annual Senior Picnic

POSTED: July 21, 2008

Again this year, the annual senior picnic will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 8 at Midway State Park, right down by the lake.

The day will begin with cash prize bingo and the sale of 50/50 tickets. The 50/50 money will be split four ways, which could amount to more than $50 per person in winnings if earnings are the same as last year.

A snack and drinks will be provided upon arrival. The meal - catered by Green Arch Restaurant Catering - will be served once seating, and the menu this year consist of jumbo hot dogs, homemade potato salad, baked beans, watermelon, dessert and lemonade and/or coffee.

Soon after the meal is served, live entertainment will begin by ''Solid Gold Revue'' with Tracy Parnell and Bobby Starr. Before departing, names will be drawn for door prizes - last year, 66 baskets and items were distributed.

Tickets, for a cost of $4, are available from Office for the Aging or any senior dining site. For more information, call 753-4471.

SENIOR FARMER'S

MARKET COUPONS

The Department of Agriculture had to wait for the final allocation of funds, so things are running even later than normal regarding farmer's market coupons. The department has assured OFA it should have the coupons by the dates selected below, but keep in mind if the supplies are not received, the dates may be changed.

The distribution dates are as follows:

8:30 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Hotel Jamestown Building in the Crystal Ballroom on the second floor from 8:30 am to 11:30 am

8:30 to 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the Dunkirk Senior Center, Franklin Avenue

Remember that this is a low income program and income cannot be above the set criteria. OFA can only distribute one book per household even if not related. More information to follow in a press release.
