CHERRY CREEK: Robert F Smith, 85, of Railroad Ave., Cherry Creek, died Monday, July 14, 2008, at his residence.
He was born Feb. 28, 1923, in Cherry Creek, N.Y., the son of the late Loring and Ruth Swope Smith.
He graduated from the Ellington High School class of 1941. Mr. Smith retired from the town of Cherry Creek highway department as an equipment operator, where he worked for 30 years, he also ran a dairy farm with his parents.
A member of the Cherry Creek village board, Cherry Creek Cemetery Association, Sinclairville 76's, and the Cassadaga, Stockton, Lily Dale Senior Citizens. His hobbies included traveling, bird watching, gardening, reading, watching baseball on TV, camping and wood working.
He is survived by three sons: Loring ''Buz'' (Michele) Smith of Cassadaga, Dennis C. Smith of Alfred, N.Y., and Martin (Shelia) Smith of Cherry Creek; three daughters: Gloria F. Smith of Cherry Creek, Cheryl L. (David) Rowley of Cassadaga, and Marilu R. (Alvin) Burkholder of South Dayton; and a brother, Richard L. Smith of Rochester, N.Y. Also survived by nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Martha M. Miller Smith, whom he married on April 11, 1948, in the old Baptist Church on Center Street in Cherry Creek and died on Jan. 8, 2005; and his sister, Lorraine B. Dahlbeck.
A private funeral service will be held at the convenience of the family. The Rev. Troy Bassett of South Dayton Free Methodist Church, will be officiating. Inurnment will be at the Cherry Creek cemetery.
Family suggests memori-als to Cherry Creek Fire Deparment or charity of ones choice.
Arrangements are by the Hill Funeral Chapel.
